Antry’s success can be attributed to two things, the product and market knowledge of its owners, along with the companies willingness to embrace new technology. Recent additions to the companies workshop include an SCM CNC machining centre. Supplied by Gabbett Machinery Pty Ltd in Perth, this machine is now used for the majority of the companies work.
Previously, Antry had used both traditional machines in their workshop, as well as a network of subcontractors to ensure they kept up with production. However with the growth of the company, a more reliable, high production method was required. The difference the SCM machine has made to the business is substantial, Edmund estimates that production times have been cut by more than 60%.
Originally the machine was purchased to speed up the companies chair production, as this involved a complex network of in house labour and subcontractors. Now all the chair components are done in house, to Antry’s own quality standards, in a fraction of the time.
With the increased production speed, Edmund and Robert have also taken on more commercial work with boardroom tables and office furniture, allowing the company to expand into new markets.
The company now finds that incorporating the machine into the design process enables them to produce even faster. This is best demonstrated by the popular “Nouveau” dining suit, consisting of dining table, chairs and buffet. The “Nouveau” suite took out two awards at the prestigious FIAA Furnishing Awards, the “Excellence in Dining Furniture” in the national awards, and the “WA excellence in Fine Timber Crafted Furniture”.
Every component in this award winning suite has been designed to suit the SCM machining centre, allowing it to be produced in higher numbers, with less labour content - All making Antry more competitive in their market.
Recognising the future in the CNC machining centre, the company has also approached local training institutes in regards to upskilling existing staff and apprentices.
As the company continues its expansion, these specialised staff will prove invaluable in giving Antry the edge over its competitors – both here in Australia and overseas.
